I have used a wide variety of media technologies for different stages of my production, research, planning, construction and evaluation. My access and usage of the internet and social media has allowed me to research, plan and construct to the best of my ability using unlimited resources and information. These resources has helped me through the process and given me a better understanding of social media and the values and help/feedback you can get back to improve and promote your production.
Google was the most common and vital source of information throughout research and planning. I used google to gather information on our chosen artist, also we had to do a lot of research within our genre to produce the correct elements to make a perfect rap music video. This also allowed us to research examples off digipaks and helped us examine real media products and give us the right ideas/designs to create our own digipak. Youtube was also a key media technology as we was able to access unlimited music videos for our research. Also by watching videos on youtube gave us the inspiration within miss-en-scene.
Wikipedia has allowed me to research my artists and gain knowledge off all aspects in his life and his music career such as his music label and his path that led him to music and where he is now.
Wikipedia linked me to Travis Scott's official website which then led me to his blog through Tumblr. While on his blog i examined the artists and was able to see the type of style and genre he portrays. Such as clothing, wearing textures colours, statement designer jackets, baggy t-shirts and snapbacks. There was a lot of bold jewellery being flaunted such as big chains and diamond grills. also it gives you an insight in to his luxury wealthy lifestyle, him representing the party scenery and also his contribute with illegal substances. This gave us an insight into his life and helped us construct the costume and props for our own music video.
Blogger has allowed us to access our media production posts at any time/location using any technical device. Blogger is a a blog publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time stamped entries, this is useful as it shows progress and tracks our research and planning when producing/creating our music video and when it comes to the evaluation process. We are able to included pictures, videos and links in our blog posts thats helped us throughout with our designs when creating our digipaks and advertisement also when analysing videos and comparable artists. Also to produce evidence within theories, such as the ….. theory, being able to posts a picture of what… is talking about gives the target audience a better understanding. ( screen grab that theory and use example)
Using blogger within a long time frame, the use of 'labels' has been extremely useful, giving a clear understanding of the blog posts due to having different sections for example. Production, Research, Planning and Evaluation. The blog has given me the chance to communicate and with my fellow pears and get feedback from teachers in the 'comment section'.
GQ and Vice Magazine helped with my research as our chosen artist Travis Scott featured and gave an exclusive interview within there magazine. He spoke about his influences and inspirations for his music and other artists such as Kayne West. He also talked about his style and the way he was portrayed in the music industry, this gave me more off an insight of our artist which helped when styling and creating the miss-en-scene within our music video. Also the interview gave me more knowledge as an artist which helped with research and planning. Also Rap Genius was another website our group used to gain more of an understanding of the lyrics and the meaning be hide the song, we felt like this was essential so that we were able to bring the narrative in to the video.
Final Cut Pro
When filming our music video we used a camcorder, which had a digital screen which allowed the director (rhea) to review the footage while recording it and also to see whether the shot is how we wanted the footage to look and if the camera angle was correct. After the filming was complete we uploaded the footage on to Final Cut Pro X along with our track.
We began to shorted clips and positions them in time with the music and on beat too. This software allowed our group to speed up or slow down the footage to get it in time with the rhythm.
When it came to the editing process used tools such as 'cross fade'. We also used blurs, tints and flashing lights to create a party atmosphere. these effects made the video look more professional.
When creating the Digi-Pak and the poster we used DaFont and Photoshop. when using Dafront it gave us the tools to create different front styles to suit both ancillary texts. at first when we were producing our poster and digipak we wanted the font that looked distorted/blurred to blend in with the Alice and the Wonderland theme, but then we came across a font that looked as it was written with a black marker, this text style worked well with our theme and adapted to become our artist signature, it features throughout our production within our DigiPak, poster and Music Video.
Photoshop gave us the opportunity to use a variety of tools, Starting with airbrushing the artist face, To give our production a more sleek and professional outcome. Then we was able to saturation the image, we decided to change the image to black and white to follow our theme with the music video through both the digipak and poster. We edited the artist eyes using the paint brush tool to black out his eyes and mouth in a square form, to create a image as if it was duck tape. After experimenting with a variety of different overlays to create a smokey eye effect, following with the gradient tool to achieve a bright purple colour. In the back round the title of the album 'wonderland' in a grey sleek and sophisticated was titled behide the man image and again repeated at the back,
I combined the use of social media such as Twitter, Whats-app and Facebook to reach out to target audience and get quick useful feedback on our music video, This gave the target audience the opportunity to express their opinion in a positive way and then for me to gain knowledge through their feedback. This gave me the ability to apply, change and edit within our production to improve and relate more to our target audience needs. I found using social media extremely helpful and gave me more of an understanding off what i needed to complete to gain a more successful production.
